Ohio Fire Safety Coalition makes presentation at
Children’s Miracle Network televised event

The Ohio Fire Safety Coalition recently presented a fundraising check of $29,000 to Akron Children's Hospital.  The donation was given during the Children’s Miracle Network Celebration telethon, which aired June 3 on WBNX TV 55 in Akron and WMFD TV 68 in Mansfield.

The donation was a result of the 2nd Annual Ohio Fire Safety Coalition Burn Invitational held in August 2006.  To date, the coalition has raised $59,000 for Akron Children’s Hospital.

During the telethon, Matthew Kuwatch, executive director of Ohio Fire Safety Coalition, explained the coalition’s purpose of educating the public about fire safety and the life-saving value of home fire sprinkler systems.

The funds will primarily go to the Akron Children’s Hospital Burn Center for education and prevention, research and patient support, equipment, and the ACBC Burn Camp for kids. A portion of the proceeds will also benefit cancer research at Akron Children’s Hospital’s Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders.

The OFSC Burn Invitational event was the sixth top fundraising event for Akron Children’s Hospital in 2006.

In 2006, the Children’ Miracle Network campaign broke the $2 million fundraising mark for the very first time for Akron Children’s Hospital. Since 1986, Akron Children’s has benefited by more than $22 million from Children’s Miracle Network-related activities.
