Ohio Fire Safety Coalition Presents $30,000 to
Akron Children’s Hospital
On Thursday, October 13th the Ohio Fire Safety Coalition (OFSC) presented a $30,000 donation check to Akron Children's Hospital. The donation was given during "Fire Safety Week". The donation came as a result of the 1st Annual Ohio Fire Safety Coalition Burn Invitational.
The OFSC Burn Invitational, held on August 22nd, was coordinated by the newly formed Ohio Fire Safety Coalition. The coalition’s purpose is to inform the public about fire safety and the life-saving value of home fire sprinkler systems. The benefit raised funds for the Akron Children’s Hospital Burn Center. A portion of the proceeds will also go to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Cancer Center. Specific programs within the burn center that will be funded include: education and prevention, research and patient support, equipment, and the Juvenile Firestoppers Program. Money distributed to the Cancer Center will fund research.
The OFSC Burn Invitational included a 4-man golf scramble tournament at Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio followed by both a silent and live auction. The auction and evening event was emceed by "Angela" from WKDD. The guest speaker at the dinner was David A. Andrews, MD (Chairman, Department of Surgery & Medical Director, Regional Burn Unit) for Akron Children's Hospital. The day and evening fundraising efforts raised $30,000 for the above mentioned charitable causes.The Co-Chairman of the event were Matthew R. Kuwatch, Executive Director and Vice Chairman of the Board – OFSC, and Dennis A. Roberts, Chairman of the Board – OFSC. The golf tournament chair was Jeff Gibson.
